ARE PHONE MASTS THE CURSE OF CANCER STREET

Friday, March 1, 2002

Scientists are checking mobile phone masts in Carnarvon Road, East London, dubbed "Cancer Street".
People at No. 10, 12, 14, 16, & 20 have cancer. All live within 30 yards of a 3-storey building with 16 phone masts on its roof.
Redbridge Council has called in the National Radiological Protection Board to measure radiation.
(The NRPB is partly funded by electronics industry - would it be better if an independent expert such as Dr. Roger Coghill did the testing!)

I phoned to complain to the BBC after a report by Charley Figgis on BBC London News

at 6pm on 28 March 02, in which they said that the Stewart report & other scientific reports found masts are safe. I pointed out that the S.R had called for more research & had urged caution if putting masts near children as children's skulls are thinner.
Colin Blakemore also appeared saying masts are safe, as a mobile phone is much more harmful than a mast. I pointed out that people have a choice on whether to use a mobile phone but no choice if a mast is near their house.
Also a phone may only be used for a few minutes whereas people living near a mast receive radiation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week . The BBC Complaints/Comments Line is: 08700 100 222. Ann (Wills)
